The leading factor in determining whether you qualify for free health coverage through the NYS Health Marketplace is your income for 2024. We use the 2024 Federal Poverty Levels chart to determine eligibility for the essential plan.
Your income paired with the number of members in your household who will need coverage will determine your coverage. The more members in your family the higher your income can be to still qualify for free plans.
For individuals and families that have lower income they may be moved into tiers 2, 3 or 4 of the Essential Plan. With these tiers you receive the same benefits but your out of pocket expenses are greatly reduced. Enrollees in Tier 4 do not need to pay money for ANY service they receive.
Even if you earn more than allowable to be eligible for the Essential Plan you may still qualify for tax credits and cost sharing reductions (CSRs) that still allow you to get affordable coverage at reduced costs. These credits can reduce your premium amount or your total deductible.
